I am a little late with my review, but I have thought long and hard about this. Their food is wonderful. It is reasonably priced. Their service is good. The reason why I gave them 4 stars is because of something that happened to me this past weekend as I was there getting my food.

I went there to get my food for my birthday party. As I was sitting there having my dinner, a man comes running inside and yells at the top of his lungs “They just bombed Pearl Harbor!”. You all know the rest… bomb warnings, people running everywhere, etc.

Now, I am sitting there with my parents and my wife’s family and we are all very upset. Should we call the manager? Did someone call the cops? Etc.

The manager comes running out and says that there is no need to worry. That it was just a false alarm. That they are Pearl Harbor enthusiasts and do not want to ruin my birthday.

I asked him if he did not think for a moment that I, as a Pearl Haramer, might have been upset. His response to me was something along the lines of “What, and ruin your birthday party”?

Now, let me make something clear. I have no problem with people having memorabilia from the war. I served my country, too. But when that memorabilia starts to take over a restaurant that I am paying for, then I have a problem.

Now, I am not talking about a few pins here and there. I am talking about a banner, pictures, etc. I am talking about the dude yelling it at the top of his lungs.

I was there celebrating a big birthday. I did not ask for a pinup girl, a helmet, a Joe DiMaggio jersey, or any other form of war memorabilia. I just wanted to eat my dinner in a quiet family restaurant without any interruptions.

Apparently, I am not worth remembering or worth keeping the traditions of a great restaurant.

Since this happened, I have been thinking about a few things. 1) If I knew that this was a regular thing, I would not go there anymore 2) They should have called or at least said “Hey, we had a couple people come in on your birthday who was celebrating a big birthday and we forgot to wish you a happy birthday”.3) The banner and the pinup girl are on the wall, take them down.

I give this place a rating of 1 star for service, and 3 stars for food.

We went to several cake tastings and Cafe Français beat them all by far! First, they offer a variety of tastes to choose from - we loved the coconut and the rum! Second, they offer the full range of colors for the frosting - all the colors except navy and silver (I think it’s the opposite of silver) are beautiful! Third, the designs! They do such a great job with the designs, it’s hard to choose just one! We wanted a mountain design, and they did a really great job with that. Our only request was that we didn’t want the mountain to be too close to the border - we didn’t want people to get confused and think it was the alien side because the details were so great! And finally, the price! We were looking at really expensive fondant designed cakes and Cafe Français made it very affordable! They also did a great job with the tasting - we were able to sample all the flavors we wanted and they brought us some cake to go so we could share it with our family who couldn’t make it! Very friendly and helpful staff who made our experience very enjoyable! We ended up going with a 3-tier cake (the top two tiers were styrofoam so it cut down on the cost a little bit) and 120 cupcakes in all different flavors - everyone loved them! They were a hit - we had leftovers for about 1/2 the guests and had some for ourselves too! They also made us cookies and macaroons to compliment the cupcakes and cake! We were really impressed and everyone in our wedding was complementing the desserts and saying how delicious they were! We are very happy with our choice to use Cafe Français for our wedding cake and cupcakes! We recommend them to anyone and will use them again for future events!
