I first met Jesse and his Baked team at a local meetup group. From the beginning, they were so supportive and responsive! I knew right away I wanted them to make my wedding cake. Jesse is so easy to talk to, he’s professional, and he is definitely one of the most talented bakers I have ever met. Not only that, his prices are very reasonable and he gave a lot of freedom in choices (I came with no specific design in mind). During our first meeting he told me to just bring in some pictures I like and we can figure out how to make it happen.

Fast forward to the present: I just got married this past weekend and it was a beautiful wedding. One of the things I am most proud of is my Baked wedding cake. It was exactly what we designed and more! It was beautiful, delicious, and most importantly, it was truly the best wedding cake I’ve ever had. We designed the cake with the chocolate chunk and peanut butter layers and the raspberry jam layer. The cake was moist and flavorful and the ratio of the two layers was absolutely perfect! The raspberry jam was not so dominant that you couldn’t enjoy the cake, but it was there just enough to give that extra something special. The icing was perfect and the cake was the perfect density. Everything about the cake was amazing and exactly what we had envisioned. We had a lot of wedding cake left over and our families raved about how delicious it was.

Jesse, thank you so much. You are a great baker, a great person, and you helped make our wedding day so special.

So… I am not from DC, but got married in the area… My non-DC peolperes said I couldn’t get a cake from anywhere except Waw. Well, I didn’t have any money to invest in a cake from them and needed my cake delivered to a wedding venue not located in DC…

So, I started looking at options. I looked at their price list and thought to mysefl “That is insane, $6 per slice?! For wedding cake?! No way”. Then I remembered that DC is known for it’s phenomenal food, so I decided to look into the area and check out the rest of the options.

I met my fiancee in the area to grab some coffee and try some of the food that was being served at the various street festivals being held in the area. We tried the food, and it was good, but nothing spectacular. Then, we came across the Rose Baking Company at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Stadium, and we decided to check it out.

The Baking Company is located in a tent in the south end of the RFK Stadium. As we walked in, a woman came out to greet us and asked our business. When she learned that we were looking for wedding cake, she asked what size wedding we needed, and how many were getting married? We explained everything, and she said we could have as many slices of cake as we wanted for $4.50 per slice.

Now, the cake quality at Rose is not Waw’s standard cake quality. It is good, but not great. The real selling point and why I (and my guests) were willing to pay for the cake was the value. For the quality of cake that we recieved, and for $4.50 per slice, it was a steal!

The cake was fantastic. When I went to cut it at the wedding, it was so fresh that the cake almost had a melt-in-your-mouth quality to it. It was moist, and fresh. The fillings were fabulous, and the overall effect was just fantastic.

Some people say that value and quality are inversely proportional. However, I think that in this case, they are directly related. It’s not that the cake is soo good that you pay less for it…it’s that it’s soo bad that it’s worth less. :D

Anyway, I highly recommend Rose Baking Company. The quality of cake is there, and the price is not only affordable, but a steal!
