First of all, I have to say that my husband and I are not cake people. We prefer eating it instead of going to a cake film festival. That being said, we loved eating the cake we did choose to have for our wedding. Second of all, I’m a huge cake person. I love cake. I was obsessed with cake. Having a cake that I not only loved but was obsessed with was a top priority for me. We tried many, many cakes. We went to a lot of weddings just to eat the cakes. (It was a thing). I love desserts, so having a cake that had a lot of layers of different amazing desserts was a huge selling point for me. We tried cupcakes, donuts, cookies, bars… you name it! We even tried cake pops! But nothing was like a regular 9" cake. Then we found Babicakes. They have a few locations, including one in Pompano Beach (where I had my tasting) right by the beach (they have a ton of cake films to watch while you’re there). We went for the tasting. They offer cupcakes with different layers of the different desserts. I’ve never had so many different types of dessert in my life! It was so hard to choose! They also have a really nice display of all the different cake designs they have (a lot, because I couldn’t decide on one). We fell in love. The cakes aren’t just a normal 9", they have different tiers with different desserts (or they can do different layers of different desserts - I don’t even remember how many we got to try, because it was so hard to decide). And they have like 5 different cake designs - I saw the ones on their website, and I couldn’t even tell you which one we chose, because I liked them all (I know, big cake…). The cake was so good, that my husband and I decided that we would have a different dessert for our wedding every year, starting in 2012 (we only got to try one that year, but we’re starting low - we’ll eventually work our way up). We chose the chocolate cake with cookies and cream and salted caramel. We had this in 2013 (we didn’t do a cake in 2014, so we ate a slice of cake from last year instead), and it was so good that I couldn’t wait until next year to have it again! 2014 was also the year I got engaged (the ring pops were a hit - we got a lot of “hey, what’s this?” and “that’s pretty!” from our guests). In 2015 we had the cake, and in 2016 we had the cake (we saved some of it - it lasted for about a week - with some of the leftovers from the week before, if I had it again I’d probably stop at one slice). So that’s why I love cake - because I can eat it every year! And I love how they have really nice displays and options so that you can mix and match all the different layers from cake to dessert to see what people like (my husband and I chose a different combination each year, and our guests got to see that). I can’t wait for 2017… And 2018… And 2019… And I’m sure I’ll find some excuse to get another cake in the meantime. Like I said, we’re cake people. My husband and I were not going to have a wedding cake (we thought we were saving money by not getting a big cake from Publix - it’s a tradition, apparently…).
